It was just released a few days ago.<br /><br />Directed by John Christopher Pina and Gian Mazcour.<br />Hair by Monet Moon.<br />Make-up by Brenda Momperousse.<br /><br />The wardrobe features 3.1 Phillip Lim, ADAM, Hervé Léger, United Bamboo, Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony, Gryphon, Doo.ri, Acne, Charlotte Ronson, Jen Kao, Bijules, Rachel Leigh, Lerario Beatriz and Helene Zubeldia. A special thanks to all showrooms and designers for providing such great pieces for the video. Superb-model Agyness Deyn braves what looks like a sleet storm, striking a variety of candid (and somewhat compromising) airborne poses, all caught by the nearly-voyeuristic lens of photographer Ryan McGinley. I want more.<br /><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHOC0poFUI/AAAAAAAAAtA/8l-08KhhHys/s1600-h/ryanmcginley5.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHOC0poFUI/AAAAAAAAAtA/8l-08KhhHys/s400/ryanmcginley5.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332769981671675202" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHN-LB8kOI/AAAAAAAAAs4/tNYjl0Py_3M/s1600-h/ryanmcginley6.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHN-LB8kOI/AAAAAAAAAs4/tNYjl0Py_3M/s400/ryanmcginley6.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332769901779914978" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHNu0IpecI/AAAAAAAAAsw/1f-b-v_SeKg/s1600-h/ryanmcginley7.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 278px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHNu0IpecI/AAAAAAAAAsw/1f-b-v_SeKg/s400/ryanmcginley7.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332769637935970754" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHNmCM34iI/AAAAAAAAAso/a1EaCKZHFIk/s1600-h/ryanmcginley8.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SgHNmCM34iI/AAAAAAAAAso/a1EaCKZHFIk/s400/ryanmcginley8.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332769487092965922" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51);"><span style="font-size:78%;">Photos courtesy of <a href="http://www.calikartel.com">Calikartel</a></span></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-83000254735593395612009-03-30T16:00:00.000-07:002009-03-30T17:53:48.267-07:00Vogue Goes to Rehab...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SdFZh72D4aI/AAAAAAAAArs/gHHrA9-BPIs/s1600-h/modelrehab1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 276px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SdFZh72D4aI/AAAAAAAAArs/gHHrA9-BPIs/s400/modelrehab1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319131074436260258" border="0" /></a>One thing I love about the Internet is the infinite nature of what is there and what you can find. Today while doing some research I came across this editorial from the July 2007 issue of <span style="font-style: italic;">Vogue Italia</span>. I cannot believe I've never seen it before. The images are so powerful, sad and beautiful. Photographer Steven Meisel nailed the tabloid-fueled celebrity zeitgeist on the head, depicting top models incarcerated in what is called rehab, but more aptly resembles the backdrop from scenes in <span style="font-style: italic;">One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest</span> or <span style="font-style: italic;">Girl, Interrupted</span>.<br /><br />This intimate portrait of a world only seen from the outside (if you be so lucky) is no plush Wonderland or Promises treatment center frequented by the likes of Hollywood's young starlets. Meisel almost replicates infamous scenes that <span>have been</span><span> so ingrained in our collective consciousness</span> thanks to <span>the supermarket weeklies like</span><span style="font-style: italic;"> Star</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Us.</span><span style="font-style: italic;"> </span><span>The final product is</span> more than a little wink in the direction of Tinseltown's troubled elite; they are clearly the inspiration for the shoot. We are treated to a veritable buffet of familiar indiscretions. There's the ever-so-popular crotch flashing, the unforgettable maniac-impulsive head shaving à la Britney (or the opposite, bad extensions—again, thanks Britney), and all the requisite cigarette smoking one could need when coming off something more addictive. Apparently, the Surgeon General recommends them for "exhaustion," if that is the case for admission.<br /><br />The art direction is so spectacular and the visuals so provocative that we have to take a moment before we can absorb the fashion. The shoot was styled by Karl Templer and incorporates a vast spectrum of soft, girly palettes mixed with a raw rock & roll roughness—and a little mismatched wackiness thrown in for good measure. Having so many different styles and moods in one editorial is pretty difficult when telling a cohesive story, but given that it is shot in a loony bin, it should be permitted creative liberty to be a little schizophrenic. Within the 20-plus page editorial there is no doubt something for every one of our multiple personalities. In any case, crazy never looked so sexy or cool.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SdFZc2QfRZI/AAAAAAAAArk/hW90dWuyeso/s1600-h/modelrehab2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Michelle Williams tops the list with her elegant marigold-hued Vera Wang in 2006. It's ruffled neckline, knotted waistline and flowing train harkens back to the golden age of cinema.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM5PA9kAbI/AAAAAAAAAos/YIhdAk00d40/s1600-h/Nina+Ricci+2007.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM5PA9kAbI/AAAAAAAAAos/YIhdAk00d40/s400/Nina+Ricci+2007.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306147716091609522" border="0" /></a>2. Reese Witherspoon killed it in her violet, multi-tiered Nina Ricci in 2007. I remember being able to only truly appreciate it's full glory when photos came out the next day. On TV it looked almost black for some reason.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM5fwbIPiI/AAAAAAAAApM/sTAWH5jNzKQ/s1600-h/zacposen+2007.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 244px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM5fwbIPiI/AAAAAAAAApM/sTAWH5jNzKQ/s400/zacposen+2007.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306148003709992482" border="0" /></a>3. Gwyneth Paltrow was a vision in Zac Posen's salmon fishtail gown in 2007. The whole look is polished, modern and feminine from her straight long hair to her diamond chandeliers and cuffs. I love the delicate pleating thoughout as well as the unexpected neckline.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM46bEkk4I/AAAAAAAAAoM/NgQ62qZU6T8/s1600-h/GuyLaroche+05.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 229px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM46bEkk4I/AAAAAAAAAoM/NgQ62qZU6T8/s400/GuyLaroche+05.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306147362323075970" border="0" /></a>4. Hillary Swank brings old glamor back to the Oscars, literally, in her Guy Laroche in 2005. The up-do and minimalistic earrings kept it clean, classy and uncomplicated. Not even the Lanvin goddess gown can take full credit for the vision that was Natalie Portman at the 2005 Oscars. I like to reminisce back to a time when Renee Zellweger was first lauded as a great actress and not for the annoying, squinty-eyed pouter we have come to know. This beautiful canary, 50s-era vintage number by Jean Desses was a stand out at the 2002 Oscars and secured her spot as a sartorial force to be reckoned with.<br /><br />There is a tie for number 10, for multiple reasons, least being the obvious that they are almost the same dress. I will explain more at the end.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaNC1zaLAGI/AAAAAAAAApU/Eys7uLb8g3o/s1600-h/Nicole+GG07.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 257px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaNC1zaLAGI/AAAAAAAAApU/Eys7uLb8g3o/s400/Nicole+GG07.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306158278073057378" border="0" /></a>10.1: I remember hearing critics complain about Nicole Kidman's peacock-toned complete with plume Gucci in 2006, but it forever remains one of my favorites. Maybe it's my predilection towards peacock feathers? Anyways I think she nailed it. Simple clutch, check. Romantic, unfussy hair, check. Beautiful show-stopping dress? Check.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM4xwpm5aI/AAAAAAAAAn8/b34aaDnoIvM/s1600-h/dior+GG05.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 245px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaM4xwpm5aI/AAAAAAAAAn8/b34aaDnoIvM/s400/dior+GG05.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306147213496739234" border="0" /></a>10.2: I absolutely love everything about this whole look Charlize Theron has going on with her peacock blue Dior gown, simple jewelry and hair in 2005. This was also not a favorite with the critics but I can still hear a million blondes hitting the bottle (of dye, that is) after seeing how hot Hollywood's golden girl looked with her raven-tinted bob.<br /><br />Admission: So the last two are technically not Oscar gowns. OK, they aren't at all, they were worn to the Golden Globes, but in my memory they were worn for Oscar. And for that I will concede and put them at the end of my list since they shouldn't be there at all. If they were, though they would definitely be higher up on the list (number 2 and number 5, respectively). Meaning Renee would get the bump; but I'm OK with that, it almost hurt to have her here anyway...<br /><br /><a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blogg/537545/empirical-waist?claim=zt6hsmydus9">Follow my blog with bloglovin´</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-1567269005543826912009-02-23T14:46:00.000-08:002009-02-23T15:58:16.052-08:00Best Dressed: The Oscar's 2009<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaMnez2KHwI/AAAAAAAAAms/eAg-Y-h6Xyw/s1600-h/81st%2BAnnual%2BAcademy%2BAwards%2BArrivals%2BDleVUtorz95l.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 321px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaMnez2KHwI/AAAAAAAAAms/eAg-Y-h6Xyw/s400/81st%2BAnnual%2BAcademy%2BAwards%2BArrivals%2BDleVUtorz95l.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306128196239499010" border="0" /></a>Admittedly, I missed the 81st Oscar's red carpet due to the fact that I thought I'd be better off without television this year. Aside from the red-carpet reds and a few Pepto pinks, the color of the night was predominantly black or white. Give us color! Where are the jewel tones?<br /><br />While most actresses played it safe in these recessionary times <span style="font-style: italic;">(come on people the dresses are on lone, live a little!</span>), some actresses even went so far as to wear what could be confused for the same dress worn in award season's past. Ahem, Jennifer Aniston and Penelope Cruz you know who you are...<br /><br />All in all the dresses were good, not bad but not great either<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>the only thing close to a Bjork moment was Sofia Loren's Limoncello disaster. But she's in her 70s and still looks hot so I, as everyone else except maybe Joan Rivers, will look the other way. The intricate orgamigasmic pleating finally gave us something to take in and not once-over. The asymmetrical top was "on point" for the moment. For me, when the camera panned from top to train, it did inspire a moment of awe. So, thank you Miss Tomei for saving us from sartorial boredom.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaMniiWYqjI/AAAAAAAAAm0/smWQV5GRSDk/s1600-h/81st%2BAnnual%2BAcademy%2BAwards%2BArrivals%2BIZivEs7bJA7l.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaMniiWYqjI/AAAAAAAAAm0/smWQV5GRSDk/s400/81st%2BAnnual%2BAcademy%2BAwards%2BArrivals%2BIZivEs7bJA7l.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306128260262308402" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-20127439205596822762009-02-21T11:28:00.000-08:002009-02-21T11:32:10.454-08:00NY Fashion Week Fall 2009<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaBWTQLxUFI/AAAAAAAAAmk/zOkAAqXIZ7k/s1600-h/P2150236.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SaBWTQLxUFI/AAAAAAAAAmk/zOkAAqXIZ7k/s400/P2150236.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305335249804283986" border="0" /></a>New York Fashion Week fall 2009 coverage coming soon... During my ritual fashion blog trolling I came across <a href="http://www.fashionsquad.com/">Fashion Squad,</a> a blog written by model-stylist Carolina Engman who was one of the stylists consulted in the making of <a href="http://www.looklet.com/">Looklet</a>. Looklet is a new website that let's you be the virtual stylist pulling from an archive of actually existent fashion pieces and styling them on a model.<br /><br />Starting with a blank canvas (e.g. an image of a model in her skivvies) you can scan the closet in categories such as dresses, skirts, tops, shoes, accessories, etc or by designer which runs through the high-low spectrum from high street, mass-fash brands like Top Shop, H&M and Zara all the way to luxe designer labels like Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent and Commes des Garcons. It is the ultimate game of mix and match where you get to be the fashion editor.<br /><br />I was initially surprised by the bold-faced brands that have provided their products to be used on this site, but I think we are baring witness to a new level of marketing for fashion brands. It's another way for designers to propagate their brand to the masses by a making it more accessible and thus more coveted.<br /><br />Looklet is extremely user-friendly, and is as simple as picking a piece you want to use, clicking and it plops itself on the model. I expected the software to be clumsy and limiting but to my surprise there were so many different options to the ways to style the clothes other than simply matching outfits together. The program gives increased variety in the way a look turns out by allowing you to tuck shirts in, leave them buttoned or unbuttoned and layer pieces over each other. You can even chose different ways for the scarves to be worn. Are you feeling more Grace Kelly or or maybe a little MK?<br /><br />This website is still in the developing stages and not yet open to the public, but Fashion Squad provided a passcode for her readers to login and check out the current product and provide feedback. I figure, since this information is already in the public domain, I will share it here as well.<br /><br />Login to the website using the invitation code: <strong>LOOKLET-3644220725</strong><br /><br />The site as is runs pretty smoothly, my only requests are that they add an option to layer pieces within the same category (what?! you can't wear two necklaces or a necklace <span style="font-style: italic;">and</span> a bracelet?) and that they immediately increase the footwear options. How are there no black shoes? <span style="font-style: italic;">Major</span> oversight in my book.<br /><br />I definitely plan to keep checking back on the website to see the new clothing and accessories I can play with (many, many more are promised before the official launch of the site). For now, I thought I'd personalize the images used for this post and share some of the outfits I created below (as well as the look in the above image, which is a snapshot of the actual site design).<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SY9-rLi31NI/AAAAAAAAAj0/nk-7QaJuwV4/s1600-h/Picture+3.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 204px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SY9-rLi31NI/AAAAAAAAAj0/nk-7QaJuwV4/s400/Picture+3.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300594566736893138" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SY9-lOFg3hI/AAAAAAAAAjs/kZ75HYjI1rs/s1600-h/Picture+2.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 222px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SY9-lOFg3hI/AAAAAAAAAjs/kZ75HYjI1rs/s400/Picture+2.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300594464339844626" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SY9-eOMEAgI/AAAAAAAAAjk/qm6XRzzV0XA/s1600-h/Picture+4.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 171px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SY9-eOMEAgI/AAAAAAAAAjk/qm6XRzzV0XA/s400/Picture+4.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300594344108229122" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-12336603819320839512009-01-30T14:35:00.000-08:002009-01-30T14:57:58.444-08:00Imperial NightsHere are the photos from the<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>Jean Paul Gaultier Couture shoot for<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span><a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.nomenusquarterly.com/">Nomenus Quarterly</a> back in <a href="http://empiricalwaist.blogspot.com/2009/01/hair-up-there.html">December</a>. The magazine is only on it's third issue so it is still a little raw.<br /><br />Personally I like art, and of course, I love fashion. I don't mind reading about both in the same publication. I think fashion can be thought-provoking and can be analyzed just as readily as art. Some may say—and I will agree—that it <span style="font-style: italic;">is</span> a form of art. Sure maybe it's not as deep as art in the more traditional sense, but it can be just as much of an indicator of a person's internal workings as well as the social, political, and as our generation is learning firsthand—perhaps for the first time—the economic climate. My one minor complaint is when any artform is so over-intellectualized that it's intrinsic expression of emotion and the provokation of inspiration is hindered.<br /><br />With that said, here are the photos from the shoot that I think are just artsy and moody enough to be beautiful, without taking the fun out of it. The clothing was provided by French designer Ann Valérie Hash and T by Alexander Wang, hosiery by Wolford and Fogal a little fancy footwork by Capezio.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUBmOt3NoI/AAAAAAAAAgU/W1lwqf9R1bk/s1600-h/P1160009.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUBmOt3NoI/AAAAAAAAAgU/W1lwqf9R1bk/s400/P1160009.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293138693341001346" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUA9OSmWHI/AAAAAAAAAgE/I1obiBF4EcQ/s1600-h/P1160014.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUA9OSmWHI/AAAAAAAAAgE/I1obiBF4EcQ/s400/P1160014.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293137988852013170" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUAtKBJDDI/AAAAAAAAAf8/8u2fqLcN5yI/s1600-h/P1150007.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUAtKBJDDI/AAAAAAAAAf8/8u2fqLcN5yI/s400/P1150007.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293137712827141170" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUAQ_BfrYI/AAAAAAAAAf0/SIBlxwpmCq4/s1600-h/P1150001.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUAQ_BfrYI/AAAAAAAAAf0/SIBlxwpmCq4/s400/P1150001.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293137228839497090" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUABz3MFwI/AAAAAAAAAfs/a73io9bYZf0/s1600-h/P1160012.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXUABz3MFwI/AAAAAAAAAfs/a73io9bYZf0/s400/P1160012.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293136968145442562" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-45979809005910885332009-01-17T13:15:00.000-08:002009-01-17T13:26:51.517-08:00Your 15 Minutes Are Up...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXJMRBrpXCI/AAAAAAAAAfk/DUJAXDi2LT0/s1600-h/andy_warhol.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 357px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXJMRBrpXCI/AAAAAAAAAfk/DUJAXDi2LT0/s400/andy_warhol.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292376367506742306" border="0" /></a><br />A few weeks ago I was running around going to showrooms in Soho when I was stopped on the street by a man with a big, I-ain't-no-tourist, professional-grade camera. If we are suppose to covet pieces before they are available for purchase, and in addition be able to see even further into the fashion crystal ball, wouldn't that be a deterrent for consumers to invest in purchases that may not hold weight for seasons to come? Just curious. I think the industry is getting too ahead of itself with the competitive marketing ploys that they are making us move on to the next thing before we can even buy this season's "It". I guess that is the best recession plan I can possibly adhere to. <span style="font-style: italic;">I'm over it before I can buy it.</span> At least as far as the trend-oriented pieces go. But the classic pieces will always remain, well, classic.<br /><br />Case in point, witness Exhibit A, Alexander Wang's newly released Pre-Fall 2009 presentation:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SXFsTK4a4-I/AAAAAAAAAe0/PMEG9X2U4Tk/s1600-h/14m-1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; The silhouettes and essence that makes each collection distinct are not cohesive. The same can be said for other designers' collections. For me it's a mood as much as a piece-by-piece basis that sells a designer, but with the industry leaning towards schizophrenic intentions to create new looks and statement pieces, it's all beginning to get lost in translation. In a time when fashion needs to inspire and offer creative refuge from the economic crisis, it is becoming more blatantly about commerce than art—and soul of the medium in terms of playing to emotion and aspiration loses it's heart.<br /><br />As much as I love seeing all the new fashions, I think there is a certain need for designers (or rather, the major conglomerations that own them) to take a cue from all the media over-exposure (and subsequent loss of positive public interest) affecting the careers of tarty starlets like Britney and Lindsey, and leave more to the imagination.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-26394237081357707132009-01-14T14:11:00.000-08:002009-01-14T11:06:21.533-08:00The Hair Up There<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SWfzcf613nI/AAAAAAAAAdE/d4f8Z_7oeCo/s1600-h/PC060014.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SWfzcf613nI/AAAAAAAAAdE/d4f8Z_7oeCo/s400/PC060014.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289463958300122738" border="0" /></a>So I have let way too much time pass between this photoshoot and my post. I really do not have much to say about it anymore as the holiday coma has wiped away most remnants of my memory pre-2009. I've posted the photos regardless as it was a pretty amazing shoot. I promise to be more diligent. I guess didn't really stop to contemplate that I would actually be out <span style="font-style: italic;">walking</span> in the rain, not splashing through rain-soaked streets in my SUV. After ruining two pairs of good boots I have sucked it up and have resolved to buy some official rain boots.<br /><br />Of course, I wouldn't dream of going for anything other than the classic, and so began my search for the best priced Hunter Wellingtons on the Internet (dammit, they are pretty much $115 across the board<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>so much for competitive pricing). Naturally, when looking for a deal I have a tendency to do the exact opposite and fall in love with the most expensive version available. Once again my delusion did not fail me. Low and behold the latest brand collaboration: Jimmy Choo for Hunter Wellington. Luckily they are not available until next June so I can thank urgent necessity for helping me avoid the $395 price tag. But in case anyone is interested in giving me a present in June for no reason at all, they will be sold at the Jimmy Choo stores and website.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-45533808016270117992009-01-10T15:10:00.001-08:002009-02-25T17:59:14.242-08:00The Not So Tony Tigress<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SWkrB8EfINI/AAAAAAAAAdM/mkWM76gfrX8/s1600-h/87m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SWkrB8EfINI/AAAAAAAAAdM/mkWM76gfrX8/s400/87m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289806549628166354" border="0" /></a><br />I'm sorry, but wait, am I crazy or is that a tiger fur coat Erin Wasson was wearing at Louis Vuitton's Stephen Sprouse party last Thursday? It's hard to tell from the picture if it is faux. I am very conflicted here. It is really insane, but if it's real it's super, super messed up. One was for <a href="http://www.spublication.com/">S magazine</a>, a racy Danish fashion publication. The look was sexy but sweet, pushing the line of decency not blatantly exceeding it. Most of the set was closed in fact to only the stylist and the photographer due to some nudity. Which explains why I am only posting one photo here. The model was a little concerned about the nudity and was assured by the photographer that it would be minimal, tasteful and mostly obscured by lighting/intentional shadows. We pulled so much great stuff for this shoot, but as I am learning, most of it got the cut. In fact, only some of the smallest pieces, in the truest essence of the phrase, were utilized. One of my favorite looks is the one shown here. The white silk tuxedo jacket is from a new brand called <a href="http://www.duskin-ny.com/">Duskin</a>. They also make these great, well-cut super soft cotton tanks and tees in the same vein as Alexander Wang and The Row, but I'm assuming at a much lower cost. Definitely about to become a new staple in my wardrobe. Trying to swing a few samples... We also got a bunch of big, bulky silver cuffs from LowLuv by Erin Wasson. While they do work well for editorial, I am not too impressed and cannot imagine wearing one of the pieces for more than an hour or two given they are heavy as hell. For one shot we piled a few on one of the models arms and her discomfort was more than apparent although she opted to be a good sport about it.<br /><br />A notable part about the shoot was the location. It was in the huge, industrial penthouse loft in a region that could be considered the northern netherlands of Chelsea. The space was shared with this a small design studio specializing in leather and fur pieces that could only be made with the 80s era "rock star" in mind. Or possibly someone going to burning man? Clustered in a corner of the studio were racks upon racks of concoctions that irked me both ethically and aesthetically. Other than that the loft was a totally open layout with a very home-y feel. I didn't think much about the bed in the middle of the space or the fully stocked kitchen until I returned after the shoot to retrieve something that had been left behind. To my slight shock there was a middle aged bohemian couple in their pajamas making breakfast in kitchen. I then realized they probably lived there and rented out the space during the day for photoshoots. And a good thing too as I'm not sure how fortuitous their other business could be...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-73446583089853385772008-11-29T15:10:00.001-08:002008-11-29T16:31:52.466-08:00Crossing Channels<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHMGJdj37I/AAAAAAAAAbU/zEDZNgC5hgI/s1600-h/IMG_0180.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHMGJdj37I/AAAAAAAAAbU/zEDZNgC5hgI/s400/IMG_0180.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274221044618747826" border="0" /></a>Given my respect for confidentiality, I won't name names, but last week I assisted on a photo shoot for <a href="http://www.thelast-magazine.com/"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Last Magazine</span></a> featuring an up-and-coming British actress. I personally hadn't heard of her before, but in my opinion, I think she's got a shot at making a name for herself. She has a few hot forthcoming projects, the first one being a Nick Hornby-penned script starring Peter Sarsgaard and Orlando Bloom. I think it's due in theaters in early 2009. The buzz is that she has the potential to become a new indie darling, and the fact that she was heading to a <a href="http://www.purple.fr/fashion.php?c=10"><span style="font-style: italic;">Purple</span></a> magazine shoot directly after can all but confirm this.<br /><br />The above photo was (again) taken from my iPhone. My apologies, but I suppose it adds to the mystery. I promise to try to get some valid photos on the next shoot. I didn't want to creep the girl out by taking pictures of her on a closed set.<br /><br />The highlight of the shoot for me, naturally, was the wearables. Everything was pulled from the Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2009 collection. The clothing (looks 1, 4, 29 and 31<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>see below) set against the backdrop of the French King Suite at the <a href="http://www.lafayettenyc.com/">Lafayette House</a>, in combination with her pixie cut and dimples conjured a very mod, 60s London feeling in the photos taken by the lovely Jaime Isaia. Very <span style="font-style: italic;">Rosemary's Baby</span>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHS5p1yA_I/AAAAAAAAAb0/ajeGyPTm7Es/s1600-h/00010m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHS5p1yA_I/AAAAAAAAAb0/ajeGyPTm7Es/s400/00010m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274228526553367538" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHS1QXVWsI/AAAAAAAAAbs/tsQ8Il2C1HU/s1600-h/00040m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHS1QXVWsI/AAAAAAAAAbs/tsQ8Il2C1HU/s400/00040m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274228450995296962" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHSxT1PsVI/AAAAAAAAAbk/oxnBuaSERwM/s1600-h/00290m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHSxT1PsVI/AAAAAAAAAbk/oxnBuaSERwM/s400/00290m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274228383206584658" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHSsvPikuI/AAAAAAAAAbc/NIKckDit1V8/s1600-h/00310m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/STHSsvPikuI/AAAAAAAAAbc/NIKckDit1V8/s400/00310m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274228304665285346" border="0" /></a>I am now completely obsessed with the crinoline booties from the collection. I thought I'd compile a few of my own. Here is my top ten list of models I'd seriously die to work with (although several would be extremely intimidating given their own outstanding personal style):<br /><br />10. Maryna Linchuk - She's the up-and-comer of the bunch. Now that she's starting to get her share of the ad campaigns I'd like to see her used for more than just beauty shots. I think there is an edgier side that is not being utilized and I would love to bring that out with rougher styling, hair and make-up.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNht7A9-1I/AAAAAAAAAbE/smdxJScUY1s/s1600-h/00270m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNht7A9-1I/AAAAAAAAAbE/smdxJScUY1s/s400/00270m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270163430517373778" border="0" /></a><br />9. Gisele Bundchen - She brings such energy to her photos. I'd love to see what she could do on a photo shoot with a darker mood and styling.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNf0wnqpXI/AAAAAAAAAa8/dKdAtw7i7bA/s1600-h/gisele_bundchen_036.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNf0wnqpXI/AAAAAAAAAa8/dKdAtw7i7bA/s400/gisele_bundchen_036.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270161348962723186" border="0" /></a><br />8. Daria Werbowy - She has a very distinctive look that I cannot compare to anyone else. She can be extreme, toned down or anywhere in between, but still unmistakably Daria.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNbF_OC3jI/AAAAAAAAAas/y1TBze4wxks/s1600-h/22m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNbF_OC3jI/AAAAAAAAAas/y1TBze4wxks/s400/22m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270156147381427762" border="0" /></a><br />7. Sasha Pivovarova - I admire that she's willing to take risks in her photos. I loved the <a href="http://beatificfashion.blogspot.com/2008/07/hedi-slimane-sasha-pivoravora.html">shoot</a> she did with Hedi Slimane for the April 2008 issue of French <span style="font-style: italic;">Vogue</span>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNfFv60quI/AAAAAAAAAa0/xzHNUPKZjNM/s1600-h/heidissasha03.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNfFv60quI/AAAAAAAAAa0/xzHNUPKZjNM/s400/heidissasha03.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270160541320784610" border="0" /></a><br />6. Natalia Vodianova - She brings so much emotion to her photos. Almost a certain sadness. One of my favorite editorials of all time was the <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.style.com/vogue/feature/120103/popup/slideshow1.html">Alice in Wonderland</a></span> story Annie Leibowitz shot for American <span style="font-style: italic;">Vogue</span>. Only Anna Wintour could commission the greatest designers of our time to design a signature dress for Alice.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNh3ZUbH3I/AAAAAAAAAbM/itbqWt2tHPQ/s1600-h/img03.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 265px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNh3ZUbH3I/AAAAAAAAAbM/itbqWt2tHPQ/s400/img03.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270163593270861682" border="0" /></a><br />5. Gemma Ward - Quite possibly one of the most striking faces of the new guard. Her Kewpie-dollness begs to be photographed. Not to mention she's the perfect hanger.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNYeNVwBDI/AAAAAAAAAak/e7pimWetiVk/s1600-h/fr-feb05.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 296px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNYeNVwBDI/AAAAAAAAAak/e7pimWetiVk/s400/fr-feb05.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270153264953820210" border="0" /></a><br />4. Shalom Harlow - She's withstood the test of time, and is possibly even more captivating now. If you haven't already, view <a href="http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2009RTW-VIKROLF">Victor & Rolf's Spring 2009 "runway" presentation</a>. She was the only model featured in their digitalized show. Very V&R.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNWx6Z5ehI/AAAAAAAAAac/XSxJY9UgDP8/s1600-h/08m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNWx6Z5ehI/AAAAAAAAAac/XSxJY9UgDP8/s400/08m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270151404445071890" border="0" /></a><br />3. Erin Wasson - She has such great style and brings it to her editorials. But you don't see her enough. Maybe she's foregoing the modeling for all of the designing and styling she's been up to?<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNUMPGCB2I/AAAAAAAAAaU/WoynN0ptTwY/s1600-h/Erin-Wasson.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 269px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNUMPGCB2I/AAAAAAAAAaU/WoynN0ptTwY/s400/Erin-Wasson.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270148558140606306" border="0" /></a><br />2. Anja Rubik - Forget Agyness, she's got the fiercest chop on the block. Anja can morph between tough and sweet in the swipe of a make-up brush. She is editorial, runway and kicked ass in the Chloe and Valentino ad campaigns this fall. Love her.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNS0rQPIfI/AAAAAAAAAaM/ctusXjedSOE/s1600-h/00110m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNS0rQPIfI/AAAAAAAAAaM/ctusXjedSOE/s400/00110m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270147053871112690" border="0" /></a><br />1. Kate Moss - Anyone who denies they feel the same is clearly lying. She is the most famous and versatile supermodel of all time. Period. I would love to just sit back and watch the master do her thing. And maybe even get some styling tips.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNQqrJDfCI/AAAAAAAAAaE/Hb-AsdY4tk8/s1600-h/kate-moss-party.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 234px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSNQqrJDfCI/AAAAAAAAAaE/Hb-AsdY4tk8/s400/kate-moss-party.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270144683019041826" border="0" /></a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-78556025882998884022008-11-16T17:40:00.000-08:002008-11-16T19:29:34.686-08:00Flashing Lights<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSDUHbI0ZEI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/-8j2qag0ZjU/s1600-h/IMG_0142.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SSDUHbI0ZEI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/-8j2qag0ZjU/s400/IMG_0142.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269444788032398402" border="0" /></a><br />So, as I mentioned in a previous post, I recently moved to New York to be closer to my first love. Fashion. The city, among its other charms is the capitol of the fashion industry. OK, that may be my opinion, but bring on the debates if need be. Just being in the streets, people-watching, the architecture and energy brings me to a head space filled with creative thoughts and impulses.<br /><br />In L.A. I worked more on the business side of the industry, and loved being in the vicinity of fashion, but felt lacking on the creative side. It may be a quarter-life crisis of sorts, but I have turned over a lot of new leaves this year, and maybe the highest-ranking risk is not moving across the country leaving friends and family, but quite possibly leaving the security of a decent-paying, secure job in these economically uncertain times to pursue what I really want to do. It may not be the best time, but I feel it is <span style="font-style: italic;">the</span> time.<br /><br />And after a little time spent relentlessly cold-calling<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>or in this case cold-emailing, is there another term here??<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>I finally got a few leads and am now waist-deep in the action. I have begun fashion/wardrobe styling, well assisting stylists, and am loving it! Which brings me to the whole point of this entry. I think things on this blog will also be moving in a new direction here on out. I want to take it on a more personal note. Not in the sense of self-exploitation, but to make things connect more<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>where I connect with fashion. Not just thoughts and comments, but also in regards to how I affect (or intend one day to affect) the industry.<br /><br />So, to make my explanation less abstract, I have decided to start chronicling the styling jobs I work on. Just a little taste of what's to come<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>I apologize for the photo quality, this is somewhat of an epiphany arrived upon after the fact, and is courtesty of my iPhone. The shoot was for ultra hip British magazine <a href="http://www.wonderlandmagazine.com/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Wonderland</span></a>, styled by the amazing fashion editor Anthony Unwin, whom I assisted. It was a really fun job to work on given the energy among all of the creatives on set. Foremost, the photographer Alexi Lubomirski and the very talented model, <a href="http://www.style.com/peopleparties/modelsearch/person3648?page=4">Olga Sherer</a>. Olga was a wonder to watch. She really knows her stuff and brought a very upbeat, sexually-charged vibe to the photos. She is definitely one to see in action, having already been in basically everyone's runway show over the past few seasons. She can bring the heat to the editorial as well so I look forward to seeing more print work from her.<br /><br />The overall look had a very sexy boardroom-meets-bedroom feel. There were lots of shoulder pads and mini skirts. Not to mention super high-high heels. I fell in love with a pair of suede, Bordeaux pumps by Christian Louboutin. They should hopefully make it into the mag given they were used for multiple looks, so I can drool over them a little longer. I definitely contemplated returning those Loubs a day late to the showroom for a one-night stand. Kidding! Anyway, I'm guessing since it's a five times a year pub it should be the Spring 2009 issue. Look out. More to come...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-71578483879432236162008-11-04T21:08:00.000-08:002008-11-04T21:13:50.123-08:00No Comment<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SREqgc9BvgI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/x_DScQQK0tw/s1600-h/RothkoTryptich.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 252px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SREqgc9BvgI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/x_DScQQK0tw/s400/RothkoTryptich.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265036176389160450" border="0" /></a><br />...except let the Hope begin...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-52370775231316516062008-10-27T14:39:00.000-07:002008-10-27T14:58:00.442-07:00iSightings<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SQY457Ef-LI/AAAAAAAAAZs/tR8oi5u9Yck/s1600-h/P1090706.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 237px; height: 340px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SQY457Ef-LI/AAAAAAAAAZs/tR8oi5u9Yck/s400/P1090706.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261955782389266610" border="0" /></a>Having recently transplanted in NYC from L.A., I am not one to blink at the occasional celebrity sighting. Today walking near my apartment in the East Village I was excited to catch a glimpse of the colorful Lynn <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Yaeger</span> and Michael <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Musto</span> stepping in to a cafe for lunch together. I suppose it is not a stretch to see them as lunchtime companions since they do work together at the neighboring <span style="font-style: italic;">Village Voice</span> offices. I always wondered if <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Yaeger</span> really did dress as eccentrically on a daily basis, the answer, at least from what I could see, was yes.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SQY4qYq-tZI/AAAAAAAAAZk/sAc1dZbnkTE/s1600-h/00330m.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SQY4qYq-tZI/AAAAAAAAAZk/sAc1dZbnkTE/s400/00330m.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261955515457385874" border="0" /></a>Less than five minutes later brunette-turned-<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">blonde</span>-then-back-again model <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Mariacarla</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Boscono</span> blew past me in a in a wispy gust of a hurry.<br /><br />Not to say that any of these people are celebrities in the sense of the word that L.A. is accustomed to, but for me and anyone else entrenched in the depths of the fashion world, it felt like a very New York moment.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-74099477546633051362008-10-17T15:16:00.000-07:002008-10-17T15:37:32.793-07:00Take Me to Hell in a Handbag<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SPkPWvLDwiI/AAAAAAAAAZc/aesMaGdVoR0/s1600-h/fsofiasection.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SPkPWvLDwiI/AAAAAAAAAZc/aesMaGdVoR0/s400/fsofiasection.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258250923226153506" border="0" /></a>Stop the press! Sofia Coppola is collaborating with Louis Vuitton on a small collection of accessories due out next spring. She is photographed above with one of the bags, appropriately named "SC." Another teaming with Marc Jacobs, but the first time with the French fashion house of LV. Writer, director, actor, model<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>the woman even has her own champagne<span style="font-size:85%;">—</span>now luxury-goods designer. Can she please do something else to make me and the other legions of Sofia-cool lovers more envious?<br /><br />Click <a href="http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/10/14/style/fsofia.php?page=1">here</a> for her interview with Suzy Menkes for the IHT.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4391409177876946151.post-88773611208568541012008-10-17T12:40:00.001-07:002008-10-17T15:38:30.292-07:00My Chérie Amour<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SPjtkxeDx1I/AAAAAAAAAZM/MNqwT_vmt1E/s1600-h/marynamissdiorcherie01isr6.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SPjtkxeDx1I/AAAAAAAAAZM/MNqwT_vmt1E/s400/marynamissdiorcherie01isr6.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258213780965541714" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SPjtpLSNd2I/AAAAAAAAAZU/yCS1rsKOwXk/s1600-h/marynamissdiorcherie02tds9.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XKRPzUUwfZA/SPjtpLSNd2I/AAAAAAAAAZU/yCS1rsKOwXk/s400/marynamissdiorcherie02tds9.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258213856614643554" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The new ad campaign for Miss Dior Chérie is so breath taking. There is such a sugary-sweet softness to model Maryna Linchuk that lends itself to the whimsy of the photographs taken by Tim Walker. The accompanying commercial that is expected to be released early next year will be by no other than Sofia Coppola! I'm picturing something along the lines of a hybrid of <span style="font-style: italic;">Marie Antoinette </span>and <span style="font-style: italic;">The Virgin Suicides.</span><br /><br />Fashion houses are really going to new heights with their advertising. Now it's not only about celebrity brand ambassadors but also celebrity directors. What's next, Scorsese shooting the Dior Homme cologne commercial? Actually, that would be pretty amazing... And considering the gritty rock star appeal of the menswear brand and Martin's recent foray in to rock docs, I have to say, possibly not too far fetched. The French label hits another naturally provocative chord with its winter 2009 ad campaign featuring the equally compelling Stella Tennant, shot by Bruce Weber. The neo-nautical look juxtaposed with the rural countryside, complete with trusty stead and burro, clearly translates the brand's aesthetic which is equal parts sophisticated and whimsical. I can't wait to see more images from this photo shoot or the new collection. And we won't have to wait too long. Hits stores September 23rd...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
